Sips of Summer Design Process

Research & Ideation

Starting this project, I searched through different images to decide what I wanted my event to be. I thought of multiple potential themes ranging from museum exhibits to an 80’s theme festival. My idea struck when I found a vintage illustration of a woman holding a cocktail with an orange background. Other similar images correlated with each other and this led to my cocktail party event ticket design.

Round 1 of Work

I chose five images for one poster and four tickets. I placed how I wanted all my photos to look and then started on the hierarchy portion of the assignment. The title and location were my main focal points for the ticket and poster. I used a script-like font that is easy to read but to me, adds some class to the design. For the information portion, the subtitle, and date/time, I used the typeface Poppins so it would be eligible and not clash with the script-like font. I started with the title and filled the rest of the space with the other information. There were different iterations, however, I found a good balance between the image and the text. Once my tickets were done, I moved on to the poster. The poster was a lot easier since it had to match the tickets. The only difference is the woman being presented.

Final Work

Through several rounds of refinement, I repositioned "cocktail party" beneath the primary headline. The original corner placement competed with the title and made the upper portion of the poster feel congested. By integrating it with the headline, I established a stronger visual relationship between the two text elements, creating a cleaner hierarchy and a more balanced composition overall.
